Bridge the Gap Cycling (BTG Cycling)

Volunteer Policy

Objective

The purpose of this Volunteer Policy is to establish the responsibilities and rights of volunteers involved with BTG Cycling. We value the contribution of our volunteers and aim to create a positive and productive environment for everyone.

  1. Code of Conduct for Volunteers

All volunteers are expected to adhere to the following code of conduct while representing BTG Cycling:

  • Respect and Inclusivity: Treat all participants, staff, and fellow volunteers with respect, courtesy, and inclusivity, regardless of their background, abilities, or beliefs.
  • Professionalism: Maintain a professional demeanor at all times, including punctuality, reliability, and appropriate attire during events.
  • Confidentiality: Respect the confidentiality of sensitive information related to BTG Cycling, its participants, and other volunteers.
  • Compliance: Follow all applicable laws, regulations, and BTG Cycling policies and procedures while performing volunteer duties.
  • Safety: Prioritize the safety and well-being of all participants and volunteers, reporting any unsafe conditions or incidents to BTG Cycling staff immediately.
  • No Harassment: BTG Cycling has a zero-tolerance policy for harassment of any kind. Volunteers must not engage in any behavior that could be considered discriminatory, offensive, or threatening.
  1. Application and Training Processes
  • Application: Interested individuals must complete a volunteer application form, providing relevant personal information and availability. Applications will be reviewed, and suitable candidates will be contacted for an interview or additional screening if necessary.
  • Background Checks: Depending on the volunteer role, background checks may be required to ensure the safety of all participants, especially for roles involving direct interaction with vulnerable populations.
  • Training: Selected volunteers will be required to attend an orientation and training session, where they will receive information about BTG Cycling’s mission, policies, and specific volunteer responsibilities. Ongoing training may be provided as needed.
  1. Legal Limitations
  • Volunteer Status: Volunteers are not considered employees of BTG Cycling. This policy does not create an employment relationship, and volunteers are not entitled to any employee benefits, including but not limited to wages, health insurance, or retirement plans.
  • Liability Waiver: Volunteers may be required to sign a liability waiver prior to participating in volunteer activities. This waiver acknowledges the inherent risks associated with volunteering and releases BTG Cycling from liability for any injuries or damages incurred during volunteer activities.
  • Reporting Obligations: Volunteers must report any incidents, injuries, or unsafe conditions to BTG Cycling staff immediately. Failure to report may result in the reassessment of the volunteer’s role within the organization.
  1. Rights of Volunteers
  • Support and Guidance: Volunteers have the right to receive support, guidance, and resources from BTG Cycling staff to fulfill their volunteer roles effectively.
  • Recognition: BTG Cycling recognizes the contributions of volunteers and may provide acknowledgment through various means, including certificates, awards, or public recognition during events.
  • Feedback: Volunteers are encouraged to provide feedback on their experiences and suggestions for improvement. This feedback will be valued and considered in enhancing our volunteer program.
  1. Conclusion

BTG Cycling is committed to fostering a positive and inclusive volunteer experience. By adhering to this Volunteer Policy, volunteers contribute to the mission of BTG Cycling and help create a supportive community for all participants.
